When Catesby Lane (one of the lesser-lesser-known teenage girl superheroes of Marvel's Golden Age) falls through 15-year-old Bertie Swanpole's ceiling, he knows that life as he's known it is about to change. The year: 1955. The place: Farmingdale, Indiana. As Bertie, a scientific genius, struggles to believe in Catesby and her comic book world, a mysterious encroaching darkness forces the two teenagers into a battle for the universe where they must embrace the unknown and the unbelievable to win.
